Being FitFluential!

There are big things happening right now!  First, I’ll start with the good news.  A few months ago, I applied and I was finally accepted:  I’m officially a FitFluential Ambassador!

FitFluential Is Fitness Found

I just have to go through all the paperwork stuff now but I’ve accepted and can’t wait to be part of their community as a representative!!  For those unfamiliar with FitFluential, here is a quick description from their website:

FitFluential is a nationwide network of highly influential fitness enthusiasts sharing their journey both online and offline through multiple social media platforms. Founded in April of 2011 by Kelly Olexa, FitFluential was designed to connect health and wellness brands with their ideal target market through customized, long-term experiential and contextual marketing campaigns. – Read more on their website

Applications are closed until 2013 but you can also become and Enthusiast by subscribing to their blog or join as a Blogger to get information about taking your blog to the “next level”!  I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this opportunity!

Now, not much other news can really beat that for me.  I mean, I ran a marathon and I became a FitFluential Ambassador all in one week!!  Awesome!  So of course, there had to be a downside.  I knew it was coming but its official, my ankle is down for the count.

If you remember, I had gotten my MRI a few weeks ago and made my appointment for after the marathon (not on purpose, that was all they had).  Well, on Monday, I got a phone call from my doctor wanting to know how my ankle held up during the race!  He remembered!  Haha.  He told me that the MRI finally revealed the problem and it is an “extra bone” in my ankle at the back of the Talus that became enflamed from the activity (ahem, Insanity).

The only way for it to “heal” (aka stop hurting) is to completely let it rest for 3 weeks in a boot.  Just walking irritates it so the ankle had to be immobilized.  After that, we’ll see if its stops hurting and the long term fix (if it doesn’t go away) would be surgery (but that is a far off solution).

So instead of all those fun sneakers I thought I would be sporting for the next few weeks, I’ll be limited to whatever I can do with a boot on.  So for the next few weeks, I need a new plan.

1.  Find Alternate Types of Cardio
Obviously, I can’t run, bike, or swim for the next 3 weeks.  Even after the boot is off, I will have to be careful and ease back into activity.  My doctor said I can do whatever I want to do, as long as I do it with the boot on.  LoL.  I’m not going to worry too much about cardio but if I need to, I can air box to get my heart pumping.  There isn’t much else though that I’ll be able to do!

2.  Lift Heavy Things
Of course, I can really work on my upper body strength now!  I can also work on some lower body using the machines at the gym like the leg extension and leg curls.  I’ll have to be creative and I might make the gym staff a little uncomfortable as I waltz around in my boot but its better than nothing!  My main workouts are going to be basically strength for a while!

3.  Tighten Up the Diet
Finally, I really need to clean up my diet.  I have been really lax lately in general so I already needed this but now that I can’t do much in the way of fitness for a while, it is even more important that I watch what I eat.  Rob has agreed to do this with me (he actually insists I do it!) which will make weekends much easier for me (my most challenging time).  I am going to start tracking my food again, I just have to figure out how many calories I will need to eat each day!

So that’s the new plan.  I still am going to do a holidays challenge with my friend Carolyn though too!  I just might not be able to push it as hard as I’d like.  But I can cook up some serious recipes!!

This week is pretty crazy for school so its time to be off and do some homework.  Today is also my 4 year wedding anniversary!  So its homework all day and then just spend some time with Rob tonight.  I have to drive back to school tomorrow for class and then come back home again.  Its been a very long week!!

  1. that is SO cool that you are an abassador!!! How exciting! Sorry about the boot, but hopefully it will help and you wont need the surgery. Happy anniversary you love birds!

  2. Sorry for your boo-boo! Everybody says 80% nutrition. I find MY life means 95% nutrition. Gotta be truthful and that’s it for me 🙁

I tried to get into the FitFluential too late (can’t remember when). Wasn’t aware of the Enthusiast thing!

  3. Congrats on being a FitFluential Ambassador! Woo Hoo!
Bummer about the ankle, but better to get it rested up now and work on other stuff…there are tons of other things you can do, like you said.
    And happy anniversary! 😉
