Focus T25 Alpha Video Recap

2014-05-09 13.20.52

Now that week 1 of Focus T25 Alpha phase is over, I can talk about the DVDs!  The Alpha phase has 6 DVDs plus I received a bonus DVD for ordering trough my Beach Body Coach.  After doing each workout, I wrote down my first impressions so these are my initial reactions to the DVDs.  First impressions can change so I’ll let you know in the 5 week update if anything is different.

Alpha Workout 1:  Cardio

Cardio Squat is the best way I could describe this workout.  It was a lot of lunges and squats to get your legs burning and your heart rate going.  There was minimal rest and you basically go straight through the 25 minutes.  He does “build” on moves where he starts out easy and gets harder.  Those are the only little breaks you get but you never actually stop moving!

2014-05-09 13.21.01Alpha Workout 2:  Speed 1.0

This workout had a repetition of Speed and Stretch.  Basically,  you move really hard for a few minutes and then take a second to stretch out a muscle group.  This was the workout I was able to push the hardest because I knew a break was coming.  Be careful not to get lightheaded though when he wants you to touch your toes when your heart is still pounding.  Otherwise, my favorite workout so far!

Alpha Workout 3:  Total Body Circuit

I thought this was plank day until I did Ab Intervals.  This is just a whole bunch of planks, push ups, squats, and lunges.  Anything to make your body buuuurn.  And why don’t we throw some burpees into the mix too?

Alpha Workout 4:  Ab Intervals

Planks, planks, and more planks.  I felt like I was just holding a 25 minute plank essentially.  He does give you the most heavenly breaks by making you stand up and do cardio.  Usually I hate having to get on the floor and then up and the down but I couldn’t hope up fast enough to get away from another plank!

2014-05-09 13.51.53Alpha Workout 5:  Lower Focus

Exactly what you think.  Squats and lunges galore!  I was worried as the first week has this on the same day as Cardio (aka squat cardio) but Lower Focus had a bunch of calf work thrown in to balance it all.  This DVD moves very slowly and there is minimal cardio.  It is all about controlled movement here to make your legs burn!

Alpha Workout 6:  Stretch

I admit, I didn’t actually do this workout as I was going to Yoga for Athletes the next day.  I watched it on fast forward though so I could talk about it.  It actually looks really great and I can’t wait to try it!  It is a lot of dynamic stretching (that kind where you move around while you stretch) along with a bunch of my favorite yoga moves.  I see myself using this DVD long after I’m done with T25.

Bonus Workout:  Core Speed

Again this DVD came extra by ordering through my Beach Body Coach.  My set came on a Thursday but I was starting Monday so I did this DVD while I waited to start.  What I can basically say is Kickboxing on Crack.  It is like an insanely fast, intense kickboxing class.  And it was a blast!  Definitely a fun DVD to have with the set.

Week 1 Impressions

I’m about a week and a half into Alpha phase, and overall, I am really happy I got Focus T25!  The workouts are totally doable and the modifications help a lot when I’m either not strong enough or just getting tired.  Might I even say it, sometimes 25 minutes seems a little short?  I guess that is just aftermath of doing Insanity.  Actually I think 25 minutes is just long enough.  It goes by pretty quickly and I work up a great sweat!

What is your workout time limit?   I get bored after about 40 minutes with workout DVDs and classes.  I could run for hours though.  Go figure.
