First day here in South Africa! So happy to be on the ground after a 17 hour flight. Nothing too eventful happened but I got my first taste of SA hospitality. I ended up chatting with a flight steward who put himself forward as a host while here in Johannesburg. While I am too shy to take that offer, I was also very surprised. Though I’ve only been here a few hours, the kindness continues.
I am at dinner now and of course the restaurant staff is extremely friendly. I do feel little silly though because when I sat, the table next to me asked if I wanted to join them (since I am alone). I said no without thinking before realizing it was people for the conference also. Oops.
Anyway, tomorrow’s plan is the Apartheid Museum and lunch in Soweto, the local town I really wanted to visit. I am getting excited now for that! The meeting is Wednesday and Thursday is free so far. We leave Friday afternoon. Maybe I can just squeeze in a massage that morning? Lol.
I don’t want to spoil the whole trip sans photos so I will leave you all with that. I had to pay for wifi but it wasn’t too much. Too bad I didn’t bring my laptop as there is free wired internet in the rooms. Wish I had known! But it is enough to tweet and post quick blogs. office to finish my dinner and get some sleep! Night!
