Holiday Fun

Things have been really crazy this past week.  I had tons of work to do for school plus getting ready for the holidays.  Since its been over a week since I blogged, I’m just going to use my Instagram photos for a little recap!

Holiday Celebrations

IMG_20141213_214940Rob and I attended our first ugly sweater parties the weekend before Christmas and Rob’s homemade sweater was a huge hit.  My sister crocheted it for him and we added the lights.  I took a santa sweater I found at the store and added accents to it like bells and crocheted cuffs.  We’ll have to start thinking earlier about the sweater for next year!

The first free day I had from school, I took a little time to myself to bake sugar cookies just for fun.  Rob wasn’t even home, I just set up in the kitchen and got creative.  It was really nice to relax and not think about anything that needed to be done.  I also had a cookie exchange party over the weekend with the girls which was a much needed break!

Our families both celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day itself.  A few years ago, we took over Rob’s family tradition of hosting Christmas breakfast and now everyone comes to our house for brunch.  I didn’t snap any photos of family, I just relaxed and enjoyed myself (my mom was taking photos so she’s got it covered!).  Then it was off to Rob’s sister’s house for dinner for a quiet night with just his family.  A great holiday this year!

Health & Fitness

I went for a run last week!  I was feeling stressed and needed the outlet.  I ran 2.3 miles in about 30 minutes.  My ankle hurt a bit afterwards, I think from the slope of the road.  It is easiest to run around my neighborhood without driving anywhere but the lack of sidewalks makes it rough on the joints.  But at least I got out there!  Sadly, that was the one and only time I managed to do any activity last week.  I got overwhelmed with school work and holidays preparations and then I got sick!

IMG_20141226_222513A piece of food got stuck in my sinuses during dinner which lead to an infection.  Even though the piece came out in a few hours, it had already inflamed my sinuses and caused a reaction.  I’ve been glued to the couch for the last 3 days, miserable.  Luckily Rob has been home and taking care of me by cooking soup and making tea.

Sadly, I still have work that needs to be done for school and I have to go to work this week at the hospital too.  No rest for the weary!  I guess it was only inevitable that I would get sick.  The infection probably happened so quickly because I was so worn down from everything else, my body just couldn’t take it.

So for now, I’m working on thinking about what I want to do in the New Year (i.e. when I am not sick anymore).  I am not a fan of exercising when I’m sick.  I feel like it is just unnecessary wear on an already depleted system.  Anyway, I’m thinking about goals, things I want to do, how I am going to achieve them, etc.  This takes quite a bit of planning and I hope I can be ready!  But for now, more tea and soup!

Are you making any plans for 2015?
