Nike Women’s Half Marathon DC Weekend Part 2

Continued from Nike Women’s Half Marathon DC Weekend Part 1

Going to the expo on Friday was a brilliant idea because it left Saturday wide open to do whatever we wanted.  Sadly, I needed to go back to the Nike store so we had to make our way back to Georgetown.  First, we looked around Thomas Circle a bit.

Then, Michele was so nice to agree to get some delicious coffee at Filter Coffeehouse near Dupont Circle.  A friend had taken me there last year and I really wanted to go again.  They use pour over brewing to serve various select roasts.  So good!  If you love coffee, you should definitely stop by if ever in DC.  It is hard to find because it is on a residential street in a basement so here is a picture for reference Smile

After that, we headed back to Georgetown to explore some more.  We decided to try Georgetown Cupcakes this time but the line was ridiculous!

We just decided that Sprinkles was so much better… LoL.  We also got lunch at Paolo’s.  We both got the Cayenne and Espresso Steak Salad which was AMAZING.  I could have eaten that for every meal!

A stop at Godiva and PinkBerry were also necessary (see a sugar theme for this weekend?  Ha!  I swear, I don’t normally have a sweet tooth!).

I took some pretty pictures:

Finally, we hopped a cab back to the monuments and walked around there for a bit, especially the Lincoln Memorial (I have tons more photos of this!).

We got tired so we sat on a bench for a while and watched the ducks.

We made our way down to the White House finally and got there just as a helicopter was coming in.  It kept landing and taking off, turning around and landing again.  Maybe they were training a new pilot?  LoL.  The road closest to the White House was blocked off for an event so we couldn’t get any closer.  Bummer I left my 300mm lens in the hotel room.

Finally, we were toast and headed back to the hotel to hunt down dinner and get ready for bed.  I had some calf soreness over night but luckily it was gone in the morning for the run.  You can read about race day at Nike Women’s Half Marathon DC Race Recap!

I had a really awesome time with my sister and I hope I get to do this race again next year!!

  2. We’ve been taste testing cupcakes from all over the city for various birthdays in our office, and I’m not finding Georgetown Cupcakes to be the best ones anymore! 🙂
