Party All Night

2014-02-08 23.41.49What a busy weekend!  Friday was spent just cleaning the house and doing homework.  Saturday was busy, busy getting ready for my friend Ida from college to come in for a visit.  She was only staying the night but it was bound to be loads of fun.  She only lives about 2.5 hours away and we’ve never really spent the weekend together (here or at her place).  It was time!

She had a crazy Friday/Saturday and rolled in late on Saturday.  We headed out immediately to a friend’s house and got ready to go out.  We just went clubbing in Atlantic City with some of my local friends and it was a blast!  Definitely going to have to do it again!

We got back really early in the morning and went to bed around 4.  Sadly, Rob’s internal clock wouldn’t let him sleep past 7 and once he was up so was I (the bed gets so cold when he leaves!).  So that means I was running on about 3 hours of sleep on Sunday.  We took Ida to see some local attractions before she had to leave to get ready for her week.

A quick stop at Lucy the Elephant in Margate, NJ

Then we ran over to Ocean City to get some real Salt Water Taffy and check out the boardwalk/beach for a second.  It was way to cold to walk around though!

Then Ida was off and all was back to normal.  Whenever I see her, I always feel like a whirlwind came through and picked me up for a while.  She has so much energy!  It was so nice to spend that time with a long-time friend and now we’ve got to go see her soon!

Health & Fitness

Friday, Rob and I hit the gym for leg day.  Notable lifts:

  • 4 x 135lb Barbell Squat
  • 4 x 388lb Leg Press

ArbonneMuscleGelApparently when you bring Trainer Rob with you, you can’t go easy on your first leg day in months.  He just kept loading those 45 pound plates to the leg press!  I was in pretty heavy pain later that night but luckily remembered that I had some Muscle Massage Pain Relieving Gel from Arbonne in my show set (*see below).  So instead of trying to sleep through the pain, I decided to give the gel a try for the first time and I loved it!  It has menthol in it so of course it felt cold and tingly at first which felt great.  Then, whenever I awoke at night, I could noticeably feel the pain reducing and feel that the gel was still “working” on my muscles.  Most other gels I’ve used only felt like they were helping on a few minutes after the time of application.

By morning, I was walking normal and feeling pretty great.  I have had lifting days where it took me 5+ days to recover which is what I had thought would happen this time too.  The only downside I found was that when my skin got wet, it would burn (like sweating or in the shower) but I’ll deal with that small side effect for the benefits of muscle recovery!  This only took the one application before bed too.

Saturday was party-like-a-rock-star (clubbing) so I got 11,000+ steps before midnight and 5,000+ after midnight.  Sunday was a complete day of recovery after such little sleep and feeling like I was “coming down with something”.  Today, I am still going on little sleep but feeling okay.  Back to regularly scheduled workouts tomorrow!

When was the last time you “partied hard”?

Rob and I never, ever go out like this!  I think its been years since I’ve stayed up past 2AM.  Phew!  I’m glad it is only once in a while because I can’t afford to waste my Sundays!

  1. Glad you got to get out and have fun! What a load of steps, too. Guess that was dancing as well as going from place to place.

For that to burn your skin when wet, it sounds like there may be some capsaicin in the product. Nothing wrong with that but some people are more sensitive than others and getting it wet *does* DO something. I’m not down on the chemistry but used to use a product with capsaicin for my knees (many years ago, these are my Bad Knee and Good Knee that sometimes gives me the gyp that have been doing this since the 1980s).

If you can take ibuprofen, I see no reason why not to if you’re lifting like that and having that level of muscle damage that lasts 4+ days. You deserve it!

    1. Yup! Capsaicin and Methyl Salicylate are the two other active ingredients. I like how it worked so I can deal with that a little burning sensation. And I’m allergic to ibuprofen and pretty much all over the counter pain meds so this gel is my only hope!

  2. How much fun! And you look so pretty! I love getting dressed up, but usually by the end of the night, pjs sounds a million times better haha. I can barely make it to 10 sometimes haha

  3. Being the old lady of the bunch, you know I’m in bed early! Ha!! If I’m out beyond midnight I’m a wreck…though long time girlfriends and I did stay out until about 2am in NYC this fall. Slept in though so I was OK.
Glad you had fun with your friend…sometimes we just need those battery recharges!
