Shut Up and Run

I didn’t want to run all weekend.  I didn’t want to run last night.  I told myself I could skip last night if I ran 6 miles first thing in the morning.  My alarm went off and I didn’t want to run.  I finally drug my lazy butt out of bed, debated on my run for like 5 minutes, and then told myself to shut up and put my running clothes on.  Out the door.

So I did it!  I set my Garmin for 6 miles and headed out.  I made sure to go very, very slow.  The weather was perfect with a nice cool breeze (and even nicer in the shaded areas).  I explored a new road which has a decent shoulder and I found a nice 5 mile route that way.  I made it to 6 miles by running down past my apartment and back.  It was the most relaxing run I’ve had in a long time!  Between the weather and the nice slow pace, it was perfect!

I think I needed to remind myself how enjoyable a long run could be.  Sometimes I get too worked up by my pace, the weather, etc.  Today, I just went slow, tried to find somewhat non-busy road, and just tuned into my music.  It wasn’t easy to zone out for that hour but I managed to turn my mind off from anything stressful.  I just concentrated on my form and the feeling of the run.  Boy, I needed that.

I think I’ll end on that note.  I don’t want to talk about goals.  I don’t want to talk about Paleo.  I don’t want to discuss relaxation techniques.  I want to bask in the glow of my morning jog!  I hope you all have your moment of relaxation and calmness today!

  1. awesome joB!!!!!!! what a great idea just to go out and run and leave the stress behind. I definitely love runs like that, unfortuantly its a BILLION degrees here and I just keep thinking I’m going to pass out and die haha

  2. Nice! I had a good one this morning…it was 58 again! I will catch up and post on daily mile…had to download 2 weeks of runs from my garmin! I’ve got to figure out the garmin/daily mile connection, even if it’s buggy… will save me a step, since I am techno-challenged!

    1. Mine has been refusing to sync with Garmin at all so I’ve been exporting the GPX file from Garmin and uploading it to DailyMile. You could just type in your distance but I’m obsessive. LoL!
