Lately, I’ve felt like I have been doing so much to lose the weight (or inches, body fat, etc. but its easiest to say “lose weight” so take it to be synonymous from here on out).  I have been eating really healthy, working out regularly, doing all the things I know I should.  Sure I’m not perfect, but I’d say that 85% of the time, I am doing what I’m supposed to and yet, I still sit here, now 18lbs up from a year ago, 5% body fat increase, and 2.5 inches up.  A lot of that I gained last semester when I was busy and stressed but I’ve also going a bit this semester when trying to be super healthy.  What gives?

It is difficult to not get discouraged but I’m not one to cave under pressure.  I just need to keep doing what I am doing and my body will respond eventually.  I was going to set myself up with a 2 week challenge but I’ve come down with a sinus infection so its not the best idea right now.  My body needs rest and sufficient fuel to heal itself so cutting calories and hitting the gym hard won’t help.  So instead, I’m just going to keep doing the things I need to.  Drink my water, eat healthy foods, get movement in each day.  When I am better, I can worry about weight loss and marathon training!

DSCN6965On a more fun note, I got this adorable gym bag at Lady Foot Locker yesterday for $10!  They were just clearing out old stock.  I also got some cute head bands and sneaker cleaner (which I needed) for just a couple bucks.  Woohoo!  I also took some friends’ advice and got a few cute outfits that fit me now and look great.  It is nice to have clothes that fit!

DSCN6961Also, while at the mall, Rob and I grabbed lunch.  I was trying my best to do the Paleo thing but I really wasn’t feeling a salad.  I wanted sushi so I ordered 2 pieces tuna and 2 pieces salmon sashimi (no rice) with miso soup and edamame.  I don’t know if the soy stuff is “Paleo” exactly but its delicious and healthy!  They also had bottled unsweetened green tea to drink.  Loved this for lunch!

Now its time to go relax and read some things for school/work.  I called out today so I wouldn’t spread my germs.  I still want to get some stuff done from home though.  I may just take a nap first to get rid of this headache.  I got a whopping 3 hours of sleep last night between the broken air conditioner and the stuffy nose.  Oh what I would give to be able to breathe through my nose again!

  1. I hope you feel better soon! And I have been feeling the same way. I want to get these lbs off!!!

  2. Soy is waaaay anti-Paleo (which i why if I ever say I’m doing something Paleo-esque, I call it Paleo-ish ;p). There are EXCELLENT reasons to not eat soy for general health. I eat (drink mine as unsweetened organic soy milk as it’s easy to ingest) soy BECAUSE of the reasons why normal people don’t take it.

What I *want* to say is CUTE BAG!

I don’t know about you but I’m wondering how much my SEDENTARY job has to do with it. I mean, I’d love to NOT blame my chocolate (Paleo-ish if you eat 90% cacao, dairy-free) and gluten-free rice chex (not Paleo!) but I know bloody well that I regularly eat over what I should. That’s why I went for the Fitbit. I (when tracking) am not only honest, I round up food — in case I made a mistake! Ignorance/ mistakes happen, so I reckon that’s a good practice.

Like today, I’m home “from work” but I’m SEATED big-time. I’m drawing illustrations for a children’s book and you pretty much have to have ‘ass in chair’ to do that. Also, to scan and size/ clean up in Photoshop. It’s the nature of my career!

Believe me, I’ve even considered when/ if I ever change, can I choose something that “provides” a need to walk around a bit. My health issues mean I can’t choose a very physical job (like lifting patients or digging shrubbery) but just SOMETHING that isn’t me hunched over a pen or mouse!

Anyhoo, sorry for blabbing as usual but this has been going on in my mind, too.

OH: and here’s another thing that’s TRUE.

Once I’d gotten off gluten, my malabsorption lifelong woes have gotten better, meaning my body is getting all that I eat (~) and STORING it (since it’s overages). That never, ever happened before.

I have this theory for people who go Paleo OR grain-free, does their undiagnosed leaky gut/ malabsorption heal, too and basically, all of these healthy choices can reflect in: GAIN? Seriously–not looking for an excuse on this one but I *have* been “very good” and not lost (fat/ inches). I haven’t done well, too. I seem to go in 2 week cycles.

  3. I agree with Lily..and have this to add…sleep and stress are HUGE players in the weight loss equation. Stress increases cortisol, which then inhibits weight loss and actually increases fat storage. Sleep is also key (and I know Lily, you have sleep trouble) and with your stress, Ang, you seem to miss some sleep as well….sleep needs to be in darkness (no alarm clock light, no street lamp light) and I think you already tried to address your back-lit device use before bed….get your sleep and stress in check and I’m positive you will start seeing some results from your other efforts!
