I must be a crazy person, seriously. On Friday, I decided to sign up for a half marathon. I was just saying that I wouldn’t run for a while but I just can’t help myself I guess. It just sounded too exciting! And it is with through another SweatPink ambassador which was the major reason for signing up 🙂 So, 12 weeks from now, on April 28th, I’ll be joining 14,999 other runners in the first Nike Women’s Half Marathon in DC!
I am actually really excited to get back into training. The last few times I tested my ankle in runs and other cardio, the bone didn’t hurt at all (my Achilles is another story but that can be stretched and strengthened). My plan for training for this race is actually no plan at all.
I have a history of not training very well for races. I don’t know exactly the reason why I suck at following a training schedule but obviously the plans I always set up are pretty much useless anyway. (As a side note, my ankle inflammation was not caused by lack of proper training for a race – it was from doing Insanity). So my plan is to just plan out the long runs and wing the rest. I want to run 3 times a week including at least one HIIT session such as speed intervals, hills, or tempo runs. Most of my runs will be by feel rather than strict speeds.
I will also be working around my Body Beast schedule which I will continue through to the race (I may skip a few workouts the week of the big day to rest my body). Of course, this will skew any results I get from doing the Body Beast program as I will be doing more cardio than it calls for. I also plan on skipping any Beast Cardio days, as it has a lot of jumping and side-to-side movements which is how I hurt myself in the first place.
So that’s it! I don’t really have any expectations for this race. While I would love to start running and find out that I’m fit as a fiddle and faster than ever, I am pretty sure that isn’t going to happen. Who knows how my body will improve over the next 12 weeks though! Run #1 is tonight to figure out how far I can run comfortably. It is freezing outside so sadly it will be done on a treadmill but I need some sort of starting point. Wish me luck!
You are more brave than me by running on the treadmill! As long as there is no wind, I’d rather run outside with layers on than hit the treadmill. I’d quit after 5 minutes on there! Can’t wait to see how BB helps your running!
I am meeting Charity at the gym so I’ll have someone to chat with! That will help a lot!!
(Would pick outside over inside any day but she’s got a little one and no babysitter for tonight so we need to use the gym’s)

You know, I’ve been doing Body Beast with cardio and actually still getting pretty good results! So maybe the cardio is only a bad idea when you’re trying to put on mass but not necessarily if you’re trying to tone? And I don’t blame you on Beast Cardio – that workout is paaaaaaiiinnnnffuuuullllll anyway!
Exactly! My goal is to burn fat and build strength so extra cardio won’t “hurt” that 🙂 And Beast Cardio reminded me of a slower version of Insanity- Push ups, burpees, jump squats, uuugh!

I’m running nwm half in dc too! Hope training goes great for you!!
Good for you! I had thought about doing that race, but there is another half the same day that is only like 10 minutes from my house. Since I have little ones, I decided that would be a little easier. Running in DC is amazing though and I’m sure that race will be awesome! Can’t wait to read about your training
Can’t wait to hear about your training! I’m awful at staying on a schedule. I just think training ADD is real and alive in my head. This is going to be such a fun half!!
Good luck in your training! I hope your treadmill run went well.
Good luck! that is so exciting. I have yet to sign up for a race this year…um…..might need to do that haha
I’m so excited for this race! April 28 can’t come soon enough!
