I can’t believe there is less than a week and a half left until the Spring semester starts! It seemed like it was such a long break but it goes by so fast. I haven’t been doing that much with my break. I’ve mostly been relaxing and straightening up the house. I also have been working on projects that I kept putting off.
I started this scarf in July and just finished it. LoL! I just don’t have time to sit and crochet quietly. Too many other things to do. It was so nice to just work on something creative though so I kept going and made this horrible hat (that I took apart and will make something else). It was too hole-y.
My sister loves to crochet so she invited me to go check out a local yarn shop.
They had a lot of beautiful, high quality (expensive) stuff and I’d love to go back when I have money to spend on a nice project. I picked up a small ball of wool/acrylic yard to make boot cuffs out of. Project is still in progress.
The purple is for the boot cuffs. I am making a cowl out of the blue yarn. And since crochet isn’t enough, I figured why not get a set of knitting needles and give that a go?
I got a beginner’s set with instruction booklet. I find it very difficult to keep my stiches consistent but I had that same problem with crochet (and still do sometimes) so it’s something I just have to practice. I also got an adjustable loom to make other fun things too. I haven’t tried it yet though. And we won’t talk about the fabric and sewing patterns I picked up with my Joanne Fabrics gift card…
I really wouldn’t be doing so many crafts if it weren’t for the fact that Spooky, our oldest cat (3 years), who has a general dislike for me most of the time has taken to laying on my lap for hours every day. She even comes back after I move her and then sit back down later.
This only sounds strange if you know her. She is very picky, dislikes me in general (or is indifferent perhaps?), rarely sits on laps or even near anyone, doesn’t like it if you fidget when she lays on you, and if you move and come back, she is then angry that you disturbed her and will not return to your lap. She also dislikes the other cats whom adore me (I am a cat magnet) so they are usually around me and annoy her.
She is laying on my lap and allowing 2 other cats to be in her presence! Gasp! I even caught her cuddling with two of the other cats today. She must be sick. That is the only explanation.
In the meantime, I am getting muscle atrophy from lack of movement because I can’t help but let her sit on me for hours. I am trying to make up for being ignored for the last 3 years and for any future Spooky-attention-droughts to come in the (near) future. (She is sleeping on my lap right now and letting me type on the computer! Unheard of!)
So other than general relaxation, there hasn’t been much happening during break. Classes start next Wednesday so I figured I will starting gearing up this weekend. I definitely needed a commitment free break for a little stress-reduction and recovery!
How do you relax and take your mind off of things?
