Living the Florida Life

Happy Weekend!  It looks like I won’t be able to do my normal daily posts here but the weekends look promising.  I’m an early riser but the other students here are not so I have time before they are ready in the morning.

Anyway, I talked a little bit about my trip here.  It is for on-the-job experience in a Radiation Oncology clinic.  I’m studying to be a Medical Physicist with the goal of working in radiation therapy.  It has been AMAZING so far and I love how much I have gotten to see and learn.  We have only had book learning at school thus far so this is awesome.

The company we are shadowing has paid for our travel and housing expenses.  One of the women in the company has kindly let us stay in a house she owns in the area and it is beautiful:

Seriously, this place is amazing and has done wonders for my stress levels that have been through the roof the past few months years.  I am really missing Rob and my family though.  But I will be back in NJ soon enough!  And Rob is visiting next weekend.  I’m already 1/3 of the way through this trip too!  This time will be invaluable though for my future career and I love it!

Health & Fitness

Well, how is the health stuff going?  I am trying to stay active when I’m not exhausted from shadowing all day.  I went for a walk the other night but it irritated my stupid foot.  I am going to make an appointment with a specialist when I get back to NJ.  This is the injury from last August.  I thought it was all better but the sneakers I wore irritated it.  I can still walk around the neighborhood but in my sandals which don’t hurt at all.  I might use the bikes that are in the garage to ride around instead too.  It would be a bit cooler to have the wind on my face in this Florida heat!

I stopped doing T25 because I just wasn’t energetic enough for it.  I know, exercise gives you energy but I was battling some sort of allergies/cold so I wasn’t up to it.  I am using them as I feel up to it though.  I plan on getting lots of activity this weekend!

As for nutrition, it has been pretty good.  We are too busy during the day to snack and I’m getting used to the new schedule.  I had a bigger, more filling breakfast and then a filling lunch too.  I’m usually starving by dinner though.  It has really been a lot better though and… I lost 3 pounds!  I wasn’t going to worry about weighing myself during this trip but I just couldn’t resist…

Yep, that is the scale in my bathroom and I just couldn’t help myself.  It just looked too fun to play with.  I weighed myself when I got here and have been inching those markers down little by little.  Since it is only me, it is always on my last weigh in and it is kind of fun!  Every time I step on, I see the number to beat!  I know there are other things I can measure but since I have a decent amount of fat to burn and am not doing any lifting right now, my weight will go down as the fat goes.  Hopefully I won’t lose too much muscle in the process!

Well, I think that is all the news for now.  I need to get ready for my day.  We are all going exploring.  There is a town here called Marco Island and we heard it was beautiful so we’re going to go check it out.  Also heard there is lots to do there!  I think we plan on kayaking today Smile
