South Africa Day 2

Just checking in quickly. Today is the big meeting – the South Africa PhD Project where I will meet many students and professors. I am excited and nervous!

Yesterday, we went to the Apartheid Museum which was really interesting. I didn’t have nearly enough time there but we were on a tight schedule. Next was a quick drive through Soweto to show the nice residential areas but the we stopped in a temporary housing section – basically the shack-like houses you see in pictures. We also had lunch in Soweto and went by some other historic landmarks. It was a very interesting, educational day.

Thursday is free again and I don’t know what we will be doing yet. All the people in our group are very friendly. I think some of them were trying to arrange another outing with our driver from yesterday. I hope we can go somewhere again!

The hotel is great here, very beautiful. I could do without the casino but at least it provides some great places to eat!  I have to be off to my meeting!  I am sore today from all the walking yesterday. At least today will be a lot of sitting!
