Surviving Sandy! (So Far)

Hello everyone!  We are all safe here at the Chicken Scoop.  That includes friends and family!  The storm wasn’t as scary here (at my house) as Irene last year.  Just lots and lots of rain.  There are wind advisories today though until mid afternoon.  It wasn’t bad here but the islands all along the NJ coast got hit pretty bad with flooding.  I’ve seen lots of nasty photos of water half way up front doors.  I hope everyone out there is safe now too!  The water is receding but there is another high tide coming so we’ll see still.

Anyway, no fun pictures of the storm.  That’s probably a good thing because it means there was nothing bad to take a photo of!  Rob worked all night and now he has off today.  I don’t know if he will have to go in later.

Oh, also, our power is out.  My dad has a generator running for the refrigerators (thank goodness!).  I have my tablet here for internet purposes.  It was funny, I was trying to read last night but Rob was so bored.  He wanted me to entertain him.  I wasn’t in the mood for bored games though.  Maybe tonight.  He just can’t sit still without power!  I wonder if we have any puzzles to do…  Today, I want to catch up on school work again.  I have class on Thursday and I hope my apartment in Dover is ok!  I have to find out if they have power or not before I bother driving down.

Not much else going on today.  I might do a little workout, but nothing to make me sweaty as no power = no well water = no showers.  On the bright side, since going Paleo, there is no junk food in the house.  Mostly everything edible here has to be cooked or heated in some way.  Without power, it makes it 100 times harder to cook!  We at least have a gas stove so we can still cook/heat things but its such a hassle.  That means my diet is great!  I only eat when I’m actually hungry 🙂

Well, I better get my day started before getting sucked into Facebook posts or something.  And again, still strong winds for a few hours plus roads are still flooded so I’m still hunkering down in the house!

How do you stay entertained during a power outage?

  1. We played a lot of Uno, Apples to Apples and the girls played Spit. We also played a few board games here and there. Heating things on the stove was a hassle (and digging through the coolers) but at least we could cook…I’d have to say that for the most part we fared pretty well. Finally got our power back today and the kids go back to school tomorrow! Yeah!!!
