Five Day Pledge

Stress has really been taking its toll on me this week, especially with South Africa only 6 days away and classes starting at the same time.  My health and fitness goals are always the first things to go and it was especially difficult to keep them up last week with my carb-detox also happening.

Which brings me to my little announcement that P90X is no more.  With how badly I was feeling, I skipped too many workouts.  Also, I don’t think this is the right program for me right now.  I will find a replacement for it though in my plethora of DVDs!

So, this morning, I finally woke up feeling pretty good!  The plan was a run but I wasn’t feeling it and decided I wanted to do a DVD instead.  I attempted an Insanity workout and my ankle kindly reminded me of its former pains (recently, it has just been the Achilles but the full fledge ankle irritation came back just doing the warm up).  I quickly stopped that and did some Bob Harper strength training instead.  And it felt good!

The plan is to keep this up for the rest of the week before leaving for SA.  That is 5 full days where I can be PERFECT!  5 days isn’t very long.  I totally have this!  So for the next 5 days, I will…

Sounds simple enough but usually one or more of those things goes out the window when I’m very stressed.  Doing all those things though will keep me sane and happy and maybe relieve some of that stress (and help me think clearer and deal with it better).

On a side note, I can’t believe summer is over!  It went so quickly!  Fall is actually my favorite time of year so I’m not really that bummed.  I love being busy, I am actually more productive that way.  Though my schedule looks crazy, I know I can handle it!

What is you favorite season and why?
I actually love going to school (*huge dork moment*) so of course going back to school is awesome to me.  Then there’s the boots and the cute jackets and the leaves changing colors and the crisp weather!  I could go on and on!  And now in my new life as a runner, its also race season!  I have 2 races on my calendar so far and I was thinking about adding a third (oh and let’s not forget my yearly Thanksgiving race – that would make it 4!).  Ooooh I can’t wait for Fall!

Will you join me for the next 5 Days?
Let me know and post a blog or comment making your pledge!

  1. I’m in week two of my “pledge” / challenge to get back to DAILY workouts. One of the things that I needed to do to accomplish this is:

Not expect every workout to be at least 1 hour.

Not only do I not have time (if I could workout AT work, that would be different! — one of my friends used to always say this in relation to people in our writing group saying they didn’t have time: “Do you watch TV? Then you have time.” I don’t watch TV.) but sometimes I don’t feel up to it! Life happens. You’re young and still into getting out and doing cool things AS YOU SHOULD. Time spent having fun with your husband is the best time spent.

I find that I’m getting a lot more minutes of exercise by not expecting “exercise” to mean one thing or a certain level of intensity.

    1. I think I have been stressing about running. I really just haven’t felt like it much but the marathon is looming now! NOT the time to not want to be running. Oy. But like you said, something is better than nothing and that was my though this morning. A DVD is better than not running and not working out at all. I really, really need to run though. EEK! And the plan for today was 12 miles = 2+ hours. That was stressing me out too because I have a lot of work to do this week! Its all coming down at once!

  2. You can do this!!! My own life goes back on it’s usual schedule starting tomorrow (kids are back at school!!!) I have an early bus stop with one kid, so I’ll have no excuse not to get out for an early morning run! Starting tomorrow!

Can’t wait to hear all about SA!

  3. Five days? I *might* be able to do that. *lol* Life has been a mess lately and I’m just struggling to get through right now, so making a pledge right now seems daunting, but maybe I’ll give it a go. It IS just five days.

    YAY FALL!

  4. I also enjoy fall. As much as I LOVE fresh summer fruits/veggies and all of the possibilities of meals that come with them, give me so cinnamon and apple anything or pumpkin and I’m a happy camper! I do also like the cooler temps and fresh smell in the air…of course the kids all go back to school which is another plus (and I also loved school…)…
Speaking of races, I never got back to you about Philly! I am doing the half in Sept. and the full in Nov.

    1. You are doing the full in November??? Crazy woman! I might do the half then. Or maybe I’ll just crash the expo again 🙂 But I’m signed up for RNR Philly!

  5. you can definitely do this! just take one day at a time. And making time to just relax can seem silly, but TOTALLY necessary when life gets crazy! you can do it!
