Nicely Settled In!

2015-08-17 18.30.02Hello everyone!  This past week was a whirlwind!  Monday wasn’t so bad but the rest of the week was crazy!

Monday, I got home from work a little “early” and decided to head out for a quick run before dinner.  It felt SO REFRESHING!  In the sweating-your-butt-off kind of way.  I only ran for 15 minutes, 13 minutes for a mile, but it felt good to be out there.  I can’t wait to get into a better running routine!

After dinner, I took my new buddy Max for a walk.  He now hangs out in my bedroom with my at night and refuses to leave.  I think I made a new friend!

On Tuesday’s during teaching weeks, we go out to dinner after work.  It is a working, professional dinner so I don’t usually take pictures.  I felt completely stuffed when I left but at least the food was good.

Wednesday after work, I stayed downtown to go look at some apartments.  The Water Taxi was supposed to take me almost the whole way so I took it and really enjoyed the ride!

There was just one snafu.  Not all boats go to Chinatown and I was stuck at Union Station.  I had to quick figure it out or I would miss my 5:00 appointment!  Thank goodness for Google Maps.  I walked a few blocks and jumped on the 1 Bus that took me right to the condo building.  I arrived at 4:59!  Phew!

I only ended up going to see one condo because the other place had to cancel.  It was beautiful but the 1 bedroom was tiny and the 2 bedroom is expensive.  So sad because I would have loved the 2 bedroom!  They were also totally fine with me having 4 cats.  Good to know these places are flexible on the 2 pet limit (I think they are more worried about dogs).

On the way back to my car, I was starving and decided to stop for Chicago-style pizza at a local chain called Giordano’s.  It was pretty good!  I love that it is loaded with all those vegetables!

Thursday, one of the coworkers invited us out to Happy Hour.  We went to Oak and Char, which was quite delicious and had great happy hour prices ($4 draft beers, $8 cocktails, $8 burgers).  I ended up getting home around 9 for the third day in a row.

Friday, I was free!  We got out of work early, around 1.  One of the coworkers, who travels into the city when he’s needed, was walking my way and we went to a comic book store.  It was such a cool place!  I got this adorable Doctor Who keychain but I think I am just going to put some putty on his feet and stand him on my desk Smile

On my way home, since it was so early, I decided to stop at Kohl’s and splurged a little.  I actually needed new jeans.  With all of this travel, eating out, and stress, I gained weight (it has been creeping on for a few months now) and I knew I would feel better with the next size up.  While it makes me sad to have to get a new size, I know I will feel more comfortable and confident in clothes that fit right!  I also splurged on this cute heart dress and a long sleeve shirt for work that was on clearance.

When I got home, I started putzing around in my room and got some boxes unpacked and organized the stuff I had already unpacked.  While it doesn’t sound like fun, I actually really enjoy organizing and being organized.  Now I can find everything I need in the morning which makes my days go smoother!

Health & Fitness

I ate relatively healthy this week but got into a bad habit of stopping at Starbucks for breakfast.  I broke down and bought some breakfast sandwiches to save money.  I got Jimmy Dean Delights and they are quite good!  The ingredients aren’t great but not terrible either.  I can’t afford to be picky.  They have a great nutrition profile with 8g of fat, 28g of carbs, and 17g of protein.  They had the most protein out of all the choices.  Also, I’m not afraid of eating fat but the super high fat sandwiches upset my stomach so…

Like I mentioned, I ran on Monday, but I also walked a ton this week!  I found a super cheap garage about a mile and a half from my building.  It has been really nice most of the week and I got at least 3 miles of walking Wednesday through Friday.  My legs and back are sore today so it is a rest day.  Next week, I am trying the commute-by-train and will be able to walk a bit then too.  Although, the water taxi would take me straight to work and I really, really love riding on boats.  We’ll see!

Now, I have to be off.  I have a friend in town tonight and need to get ready!  It will be so nice to see a familiar face!
