Healthy Holidays Challenge: Week 1 Challenges

So, some people have requested the daily challenges up front for the week so they can better prepare (or because they can’t get online every day).  I am torn on this idea for a number of reasons but I’ve decided to go with it.  Some things I want you to keep in mind though:

  • Still do the challenges on the day it is assigned so we are all doing it together.
  • You may move a challenge if you absolutely must (for example, a high intensity workout the day before your first 5K isn’t exactly going to work).
  • Don’t start making excuses why you can’t do challenge (because it is hard).
  • Keep doing your best!

Ok, so here are the challenges for the rest of the week!

Day 4 Challenge:  10 Minute HIIT

Be sure to warm up a little before this workout, then choose your favorite form of cardio and alternate 1 minute of high intensity and 1:30 of recovery and repeat for a total of 4 sets.  For example, you could do jumping jacks as fast as possible for 1 minute and then jog in place for 1:30.  The key is to get your heart rate up for high part and then back down again during the recovery.  You can run, bike, elliptical, etc.  If you feel up to it and want a longer workout, you can add more sets.  Be sure to cool down and stretch at the end!

Day 5 Challenge: Body Confidence

Today, I want you to tell me what you love the most about your body and why.  Just a couple sentences.  It could be functional (“I love how strong my legs are”) or beauty (“my butt looks great in jeans”).  I want you to be as positive as possible, and I want you to (try to) believe what you are saying!

Day 6 Challenge: 10 Minute Yoga

Yoga is an excellent way to relieve stress and stretch out sore muscles.  You can do your own workout if you are a regular yogi.  Otherwise, you can simply do 10 minutes of Sun Salutations which help get the blood flowing and boost your energy (great first thing in the morning).  You can find a great (free) video from Gaiam on Hulu demonstrating a basic Sun Salutation and a modified version.  They have more great yoga videos on there too so check it out!

Day 7 Challenge: 5 Ingredient Recipe

Today, I want you to share a simple, fast, healthy recipe that uses less than 5 ingredients.  Don’t feel pressured to make anything fancy.  Share what you know how to make!

In case you were wondering, there will be a fitness challenge approximately every other day.  Like I said, if it really intereferes with your workout, I will give you a pass but they will never be more than 10-20 minutes!  Now, go tackle the rest of the week!
